Frequently Asked Questions

Anam Chara Counselling

1. What is counselling and how can it help me?

Counselling gives you a safe, supportive space to talk through whatever is on your mind. You might be feeling anxious, stressed, low in mood, or going through a big life change. Talking things through with a counsellor in Kelowna can help you gain clarity, feel less alone, and explore new ways forward.

2. Do I need to be in crisis to come to counselling?

Not at all. Some people come because they’re struggling with anxiety or depression, others because of relationship difficulties, grief, or feeling stuck. You don’t need to “have it all figured out," counselling is a place where you can simply be yourself and explore what’s going on for you.

3. What happens in the first session?

The first session is really about you getting a feel for whether this is the right place for you. We’ll spend some time talking about what has brought you here, and I’ll explain how I work. It’s relaxed and at your pace, and you don’t have to share everything at once. Many people find it a relief just to take that first step.

4. How many sessions will I need?

That depends on your needs. Some people find a few sessions give them the support they need, while others choose longer-term therapy. We’ll check in regularly together to see what feels right for you.

5. Is everything I say confidential?

Yes. What you share with me stays private. The only exceptions are rare situations where there’s a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or if required by law. I’ll explain these boundaries clearly so you feel safe and informed from the beginning.

6. Do you offer counselling online or only in-person?

I offer both. You can meet me in-person in Kelowna, or online from the comfort of your own home via a secure video call. Many clients find online counselling just as effective, and it gives you flexibility if you live outside Kelowna and surrounding areas or prefer not to travel.

7. How much does it cost, and how long is a session?

Each counselling session lasts 50 minutes and costs $160. We’ll agree on a regular time that suits you. I’ll explain payment options when you book your first appointment.

8. How do I arrange an appointment?

It’s simple - just get in touch by phone, email, or website. You don’t have to commit straight away; you can ask me any questions first. If you’re feeling nervous, that’s completely normal, I’ll do my best to make the process as easy and welcoming as possible.

9. Do you offer counselling in Kelowna and surrounding areas?

Yes. I provide counselling in Kelowna and nearby areas such as West Kelowna and Lake Country. If you’re further away, online sessions are available too, so distance doesn’t have to be a barrier.

10. What kinds of issues do you work with?

I support people with a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, grief, self-esteem issues, and life transitions. You don’t need to label your experience; if something is troubling you, counselling can give you the space to explore it.
